One Health education: prepare the workforce for effective implementation
Capitilizing on One Health Day, the One Health Initiative (OHI) team is planning a series of webinars to showcase One Health in practice among different stakeholder groups. By bringing key stakeholders together to share their experience, we hope the webinar series can facilitate strengthened understanding of the importance of One Health, showcase the evidence based One Health governance, highlight the current work around One Health led by different technical programmes in WHO, as well as provide a platform for sharing challenges and opportunities by academia, and much more.
Objectives
Universities are pivotal in developing a workforce rooted in interdisciplinary thinking which is critical to advance One Health. Integrating One Health education into curricula and lifelong learning is essential to equip graduates and upskill professionals to effectively implement One Health strategies and interventions in response to health crises in an ever-changing world, thereby protecting and promoting the health of humans, animals and the environment, whilst also informing the United Nations Sustainable Developement Goals.
By working together, WHO and other institutions can advance the interdisciplinary agenda of public health and healthcare education, training, and practice as well as the preparedness of public health and healthcare workforces.
In this webinar, we hope to showcase effective and accessible One Health (OH) education in different institutions globally and how essential it is to apply educational frameworks and strategies from inter- and cross-disciplinary backgrounds, their challenges and opportunities and ways of moving forward and how international organization like WHO can join forces.
