YMCA of Greater Cleveland introduces mental wellness services at Lyndhurst, Warrensville Heights branches

CLEVELAND, Ohio — The YMCA of Greater Cleveland has launched new mental wellness services at two of its branches — the Hillcrest Family YMCA in Lyndhurst and the Warrensville Heights Family YMCA.

As society continues to face challenges related to stress, anxiety and social isolation, the importance of mental wellness is critical.

The YMCA’s mental wellness services are designed to provide individuals with the tools and support needed to navigate life’s ups and downs and build resilience, ultimately leading to a more fulfilled and balanced life.

While the terms “mental wellness” and “mental health” are often used interchangeably, they refer to different aspects of one’s psychological and emotional functioning.

Mental health refers to the state of an individual’s psychological and emotional well-being, including a person’s ability to cope with the normal stresses of life, to work productively and to contribute to one’s community.

Mental health can be affected by mental illnesses, which are diagnosable conditions that impact how a person thinks, feels and behaves.

“Mental wellness is about more than just managing or treating mental illness. It’s about equipping people with the skills and resources they need to thrive in all aspects of their lives,” YMCA of Greater Cleveland Behavioral Health Manager Marlon L. Johnson said in a news release.

“Our new services at Hillcrest and Warrensville Heights YMCAs are designed to support the community in achieving and maintaining this state of wellness, aligning perfectly with our mission of nurturing the spirit, mind and body.”

The YMCA of Greater Cleveland’s mental wellness initiative includes a range of services aimed at meeting the unique needs of the Lyndhurst and Warrensville Heights communities.

Provided services include:

• Professional counseling: Licensed counselors will provide individual and group counseling sessions focused on a variety of issues, including stress management, anxiety, depression and addiction.

• Support groups: Facilitated sessions will offer community members the opportunity to share experiences and gain support from others facing similar challenges.

• Educational workshops: The Y plans a series of workshops addressing topics such as grief and loss, teen mental health, mental wellness for seniors and substance use recovery.

• Community-building activities: These programs are designed to foster social connectedness, reduce isolation and enhance overall mental wellness.

These services are part of the YMCA’s ongoing commitment to fostering a healthy spirit, mind and body for all community members, the news release notes.

Members of the Lyndhurst and Warrensville Heights communities are invited to take advantage of these new services and work toward building a healthier, more resilient community.

Hillcrest Family YMCA is located at 5000 Mayfield Road in Lyndhurst. The Warrensville Heights Family YMCA is located at 4433 Northfield Road.
